How to play Kakuro
Kakuro is like a crossword with numbers. Each clue tells you the total of the run of white cells next to it.
The rules
- Fill each white cell with a number from 1 to 9.
- The numbers in each run add up to the clue: across clues are above the diagonal, down clues below it.
- A number can’t repeat within a run.

Look for runs with only one possible combination, such as 3 in two cells (1+2).
Where an across run and a down run cross, the number must fit both.
Use Notes to keep track of the options.
Tips
- Learn the "magic" totals: two cells 3, 4, 16, 17; three cells 6, 7, 23, 24.
- Start at crossings of two short runs.
